Functional dynamics of cell contacts in
cellular assemblies and migratory cells

In their respective fields, namely neurobiology, development of insects, amphibia and zebrafish, all FOR participants investigate the formation and function of small and defined cellular assemblies, whose basis are regulatory or structural cell contacts. The formation, dynamics and function of cell contacts are studied using Drosophila, Xenopus and zebrafish as animal models. The existing know- how and equipment within the participating groups will be complementary and thus will form a very powerful technology platform for all participants and will provide the basis for collaborative improvement of the assays and experimental approaches. In addition to the genetic and reverse- genetic approach, the FOR will generate synergy on especially two fields of experimentation: light microscopy including quantitative image analyis and biophysical methods, such as AFM.
